There is an adjacent bus stop at Golspie and Kimberly with multiple nearby bus routes. do I have to be a good singer to join? are there auditions? Not at all, but we hope you will be interested in learning more about music and singing! Our choirs are made up of people from all musical backgrounds—from those who have been in choirs all their lives to those who have never sung a note. As singing groups, we all commit to practicing and striving to improve musically, but no matter where you are starting from, you are welcome! (There are no auditions)
-
how much of a time commitment is the choir? We have weekly rehearsals for 2-2.5 hours (1.5 hours for the youth choir), with an extra rehearsal or two right before our big concerts, and occasional sectional practices. We also sing in several shorter community-based concerts and fundraisers and hold a couple of afternoon retreats throughout the year. All singing members are expected to attend as many rehearsals, sectionals and extra concerts as possible in order to be prepared for our concerts.
-
what kind of music do you sing?We sing a wide variety of music, from folk songs to pop, rock, funk and musical theatre and even songs in the classical tradition. Music is chosen by the Artistic Director in conjunction with the Music Team, however, interests of individual choristers and the lived experiences of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are taken into consideration in all music choices.
-
can I join one of the choirs if I don’t identify as 2SLGBTQIA+?YES! We welcome all those who want to be part of our choirs, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or relationship status. In fact, many of our choir members are straight and allies of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Our diversity is what makes us stronger!
-
i’m under 18. which choir should I join? The RHP Youth Choir is specifically for young folks ages 13-18, so we invite you to join that choir! We also love to have members of all ages in our flagship ensemble, Rainbow Harmony Project, so you can also join that group if you want to do both! Either way, if you are under the age of 18, you require signed permission from a parent or guardian.
-
how much does it cost to join? For singing members, the full season is $200 and runs from September through June. For supporting members (non-singing) it is $50 per season. RHP offers a reduced membership fee structure to ensure that everyone who wants to join us has the opportunity to do so regardless of their financial situation. Email info@rainbowharmonyproject.ca for more information.
-
do I have to buy sheet music? All music and performance binders are loaned to members and must be returned at the end of the term or season in which the music is sung. If you do not return your music or performance binder at the end of the season, you will be charged replacement costs.
-
do I have to memorize the songs?Maybe. Ultimately, this is up to the director and depends on how difficult the songs are and whether there is movement involved when performing. Don’t worry though, we always have ample time to practice any music that we need to memorize!
-
what do you wear for performances?Generally all black dress clothes, along with a specific accent colour, to be determined by the director. For more casual performances we often wear blue jeans with a black or white top. Each member is responsible for providing their own performance clothes.
-
can I be a member of RHP and not sing?Yes! We have a number of Supporting Members, who pay a reduced membership fee and perform a variety of volunteer tasks for the choir.
what if I have more questions?
